Chuyen My village and clam shell mosaic profession
(Cinet)- Chuyen My village, popularly known as Chuon village, is situated in Phu Xuyen district. Hanoi, and has the 800 years old traditional clam shell mosaic profession. The progenitor of the profession is Mr Truong Cong Thanh, who lived during the reign of Emperor Ly Nhan Tong (l072- 1 /28).

 

The village consists of 5 hamlets : 1 - Chuon Thuong (specialized in making materials for mosaic, particularly snail shell); 2 - Chuon Trung; 3 - Chuon Ha (specialized in production of clam and snail shell mosaic products); 4 - Boi Khe (specializing in pro- ductign of lacquer, red lacquer gold painted) ; and 5 - Dong Vinh (professional with clam shell mosaic)

 

Since long ago. the village has had various decoration items fur the appliances such as boxes, vases, trays, casketl and other furniture such as wooden eabinets, shells, chairs, benches, honzontal lacquered boards, parallel sentences boards, paintings of all kinds... The decorations with rainbow colors coming from snail and calm shell are shining in nowers, plants, animals and landscapes. All of them are very beautiful and sophisticated.

The products of Chuyen My village are loved by people in the country and exported abroad. Many of them are being kept in Vietnam National Art Museum.
